CK49 - Holywood, Co. Down
There are 12 members in the Holywood Council and we meet once a month in the Parochial House in Holywood. Two members from CK29, Drumbo & Carryduff were seconded to CK49 on a temporary basis. Since 2005, the Council has provided funding for a number of projects locally and on the missions. These include Breadline Africa which utilises funding to help people develop their own crops to enable them to have food and provide food for local markets. In addition, the Council has provided funding for Cardinal Napier, Archbishop of Durban for his work with the Zulu people. The Council has also provided support for the missionary sisters of the Holy Rosary towards their work in Africa. The following projects have been achieved:
1-Provision of materials for building a Health Centre/School 2-Sinking of a well to provide clean running water for the communities 3-Assistance with funding of an AIDS education programme 4-Funding for milk and high energy biscuits for school children
At a local level, the Council has made donations to the work of the Society of St.Vincent de Paul during 2006.
The Council also installed a web cam in St. Columcille's Church, Holywood.
There is a new spirit of optimism within the Council which has been encouraged by the additional members of our Council including the newer members of the Order.
