Oireachtas Essay Competition

Students across the island of Ireland are already registering online at www.oireachtasessay.ie and www.aisteanoireachtais.ie to compete for €6,000 in prizes. Aiste an Oireachtais aims to get young people thinking about our democratic system. The work of the Oireachtas, NI Assembly, UK Parliament and other assemblies needs the interest and input of young people concerned about democracy and the resolution of conflicts at home and abroad. It is vital that our young people are encouraged to consider their connection with the institutions that shape all our lives. We are again inviting students in Senior Cycle (TY, 5th Year and 6th Year for Leaving Cert), as well as AS and A level students across the island of Ireland, to take part and submit essays on the theme: 'Parliamentary Politics Matters for Europe'. Is é 'Tábhacht na Polaitíochta Parlaiminte don Eoraip' an téama acu siúd atá ag scríobh i nGaeilge. I'd be very grateful if you would spread the word in any way possible to students, parents, teachers and school leaders whom you know. Participating students should register on our Competition website — www.oireachtasessay.ie / www.aisteanoireachtais.ie — by 6 November 2026. Remember, this Competition invites young people across the island of Ireland to reflect on the importance of the democratic process and their place in it. As always, when students register, we email them a code number with which they can upload their completed essays by 20 November 2026. I would be grateful if you would: 1. Link to the Competition on Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) etc (if you use any of these online platforms) and post a message of your own about the Oireachtas Essay Competition. 2. Click on our Competition Flyers (English) / Competition Flyers (Irish) and spread the word! 3. If you are a teacher, recommend a Classroom Exercise where students register for the Competition online (before 6 November). 4. Draw the attention of other teachers, parents etc to this Competition and encourage people to take part.
