About the event
Ely House, the headquarters of the Order of the Knights of St. Columbanus, opens its doors for the annual Open Day on Saturday 14 November 2026, from 10.30am to 4.00pm. Guided tours tell the story of the house, from Lord Ely to the Order today. All are welcome.
The house
Ely House, at 8 Ely Place, is one of Dublin's finest Georgian houses. Henry Loftus, Earl of Ely, built it as his town house in 1771. Among its later residents was Sir Thornley Stoker, the surgeon, brother of Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula.
Visitors can see the original stucco work on the walls, and the Labours of Hercules on the great cantilevered staircase.
