St. Maximilian Kolbe
Raymund Kolbe was born at Zduńska Wola, in Poland, on 8 January 1894. He joined the Conventual Franciscans, taking the name Maximilian, and in 1917 founded the Militia Immaculatae. In 1927 he founded the friary of Niepokalanów, near Warsaw, which became a great centre of Catholic publishing.
