On the evening of Tuesday 3 November 2026, the feast of St Martin de Porres, the Brothers of CK105 Claremorris marked the day with a Mass in his honour. A statue of the saint stood before the altar with a relic at its feet, and after Mass the Brothers helped those present come forward to venerate the relic.

Who he was

Martin de Porres was born in Lima, Peru, in 1579, the son of a Spanish nobleman and a freed woman of African descent. He joined the Dominicans as a lay brother and spent his life caring for the sick and the poor of the city, whoever they were. He died on 3 November 1639 and was canonised by Pope John XXIII in 1962. He is the patron of social justice and of all who work for harmony between peoples.
