Barry MacMahon

As a former Supreme Knight, Barry has been reappointed to the Supreme Executive as a Strategic Advisor, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. 

Barry is a long-time member of the Knights of St. Columbanus, having joined the Order in 1986.  During his time in the Order, he served as Secretary, Deputy Grand Knight and Grand Knight of his Council.  He also served as Secretary, Deputy Provincial Grand Knight and Provincial Grand Knight of Provincial Area eight.

He was elected to the Supreme Executive as Supreme Registrar in 2005, progressing to Supreme Chancellor’s role in 2008, and he was elected as Deputy Supreme Knight 2011.

In 2014 he was elected Supreme Knight of the Order and led the Order’s Centenary celebrations in 2015.  He served as Last Past Supreme Knight from 2017 to 2020, when the Current Supreme Knight reappointed him to his current Strategic Advisory role.  He was made a Knight of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory the Great by Pope Francis in 2017.

Barry brings a lifetime of Business and Management experience to the Order, having worked in the Hotel industry in Senior Management positions for over 20 years and in Sales and Marketing in two International companies in the Drinks Industry for 26 years.  He also set up and operated two Promotional companies with his wife.

He is deeply involved in the Church in Sligo and is a Director of an extensive Charity, Sligo Social Service Council Ltd, for the past 27 years, where he has served as Chairman for 18years.   He has also spent over 22 years as a Director and founder of Sligo Money Advice and Budgeting Service Ltd.

Barry and his wife Helena are the parents of 2 Married Daughters and have 3 Grand Children.

He spends his leisure time walking, and Gardening and is a keen follower of Sligo Rovers FC and Portsmouth Football Club.
